Outlook (MAPI) creates many RSS-Feed folders

1. Overview

Outlook creates multiple RSS Feed folders when connected via MAPI to the INGOS E-Mail V2 Server. This behavior doesn't occur on all Outlook installations and depends on localization (most commonly seen in the German versions of Outlook 2019 and 2021 LTSC), Outlook version, and system environment.

2. Prerequisites
  • Access to the user account under which Outlook is running.
  • Outlook 2019 or 2021 LTSC, particularly the German version.
  • Ability to run registry commands or edit the registry.
  • (Optional) Access to Group Policy Management to implement a GPO.
3. Solution

Workaround: To prevent the creation of RSS Feed folders in Outlook, you can disable the RSS Feed feature.

As a user, execute the following command in the Command Prompt:

bash

reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\RSS" /v Disable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Alternative: Group Policy Object (GPO)

If you want to implement this setting for multiple users in a domain, you can use a Group Policy:

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Editor.

  2. Navigate to the Path shown down below

  3. Enable the policy "Disable RSS Feeds".

Note

The path may vary depending on the version of Office used. For Outlook 2019 and 2021 LTSC, you may need to download and install the latest administrative templates (ADMX/ADML files) from the official Microsoft website.
