1. Overview

This guide explains how to establish a secure connection to your server using Remote Desktop (based on the Parallels Client). All connections are configured exclusively via Gateway SSL Mode to ensure maximum security.

2. Adding a New Connection

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  • Open Parallels Client: Launch the Remote Desktop software on your device.
  • Add a New Connection:
    • From the main menu, click File and select New Connection. Alternatively, you can choose New Connection from the drop-down menu.
  • Enter the Server Address:

Use the following schema for the server address:
cXXXXX-ras.ingos.net

Schema explanation:

Element Description
c Customer
p Partner
r Reseller
XXXXX Your 5- to 8-digit customer number
-ras Remote Application Server
.ingos.net Domain name
  • Select Connection Mode:

    • The Connection Mode is automatically set to Gateway SSL Mode and cannot be modified. This mode ensures that all data is encrypted during transmission.
  • Add a Friendly Name:
    • Enter a label in the Friendly Name field to easily identify the connection, e.g., "My Remote Desktop Connection."
  • Optional Advanced Settings:
    • Additional connection properties can be configured using the Advanced Settings link. These settings are already optimized and usually do not require changes.
  • Create the Connection:
    • Click OK to save and activate the connection.

3. Enhanced Security with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

If your administrator has enabled Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), you will be prompted to set it up during the first connection attempt.

Steps to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication:

  1. Download the Google Authenticator App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on your mobile device or use INGOS Password Manager for storing the Tokens.
  2. After entering your credentials, a window with a QR code and a secret key will appear.
  3. Scan the QR Code: Open the Google Authenticator app, tap the plus icon, and select "Scan a barcode."
Alternative: If scanning does not work, select "Enter a provided key" in the app and manually enter the secret key displayed on the screen.
Once added, the app will generate a One-Time Password (OTP).
  4. Enter the OTP into the OTP field in the Remote Desktop client and click Next.
  5. For future logins, you only need to provide the OTP generated by the app along with your credentials.
4. Connecting to the Server

After successfully setting up the connection, log in using your credentials and Two-Factor Authentication.

Optionally, you may see a dialog box asking if you want to share local folders or drives with the remote session. By default, this feature is disabled but can be enabled if needed.

Note

Sync Your Time: Ensure that your computer's time is correctly synchronized (e.g., using a global NTP server like ntp0.fau.de) to reliably use Two-Factor Authentication.
